Did you know that 70% of us have cell phone or wireless device of some sort.
While these devices make life more convenient, the contracts that come with them can sometimes cause headaches.
The high fees charged for cancelling a contract, misleading advertising, hard-to-understand terms and rollover agreements leave some people downright shocked when they get the bill.
That’s why the McGuinty government is putting an end to “cell shock.” It will now be easier to understand the costs and terms of wireless services agreements. We are making sure that service providers are upfront with information before the contracts are signed and that contracts are written in plain language, and spell out which services come with the basic fee and which services cost extra.
And it will put a cap on the cost of cancelling a contract, and make sure that service providers can only charge a modest fee for walking away from fixed term contract.
The McGuinty government is taking strong action to protect Ontarians. It is part of our commitment to educate, protect and serve Ontarians by ensuring a fair and safe marketplace.
