North York, February 27, 2015 — Monte Kwinter, MPP for York Centre, visited Teknion at 1150 Flint Road today to raise awareness about Ontario’s saveONenergy RETROFIT PROGRAM.
This program helps businesses operate more efficiently and improve their bottom line through the integration of energy-efficient solutions and equipment.
Offered by Toronto Hydro with funding from the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), the RETROFIT PROGRAM is one of several initiatives that represent the province’s new ‘Conservation First Framework’, which is designed to reduce electricity consumption in Ontario by seven terawatt-hours between 2015 and 2020.
Teknion is leading by example by participating in the RETROFIT PROGRAM. Teknion, working with Toronto Hydro, received saveONenergy incentives of over $130,000 to install an Ecogate dust collection system, replace 400 fixtures in its panel plant to T8s, plus 300 office and showroom fixtures to low-wattage LEDs. The Ecogate system has realized over 60% energy savings and will save an estimated $90,000 in energy costs per year. Future plans in the organization will realize even more savings.
Teknion is one of many businesses in Ontario to work with their local utility to gain access to experienced roving energy managers, who help businesses realize their conservation-saving potential.
The RETROFIT PROGRAM offers incentives for high-efficiency equipment such as lighting, motors and heating and control systems to improve the overall efficiency of commercial buildings. Eligible companies can receive incentives worth up to 50 percent of project costs.
“The saveONenergy RETROFIT PROGRAM is one way Ontario is helping businesses save money and energy. The enhanced conservation programs offered under the Five-Point Small Business Energy Savings Plan are part of Ontario’s commitment to putting conservation first.”
- Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Energy
“Making the choice to conserve electricity has never been so easy. There are simple things that are easy to do around a business that will make a difference and have a real impact, like we’ve seen at Teknion. That’s why I’m encouraging all Ontarians to consider making the choice to conserve - small changes can make a big difference.”
- Monte Kwinter, MPP York Centre
“At Teknion, we take a long-term approach with our corporate responsibility efforts, as they empower us to invest in programs and processes that raise the bar and further sustainability,” said David Feldberg, Teknion President & CEO. “Seeking new technologies and implementing devices such as Ecogate is part of Teknion's corporate culture to attain a more sustainable outcome.”
“Toronto Hydro would like to congratulate Teknion for their leadership and continued participation in our conservation programs. These innovative projects are producing tremendous operational benefits and sustainable energy savings. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Teknion to deliver even more energy efficiency improvements.”
- Chris Tyrrell, Executive Vice-President and Chief Customer Care and Conservation Officer, Toronto Hydro
“The saveONenergy RETROFIT PROGRAM provides a great opportunity for businesses of all sizes across Ontario to manage their electricity use and reduce operating costs. By taking advantage of the program, Teknion Ltd. is also helping to meet Ontario`s future energy needs. The IESO commends Teknion for its continued leadership in supporting province-wide conservation efforts.”
